NEW YORK After a year of budget cuts and media deflation, the state of industry is improving, said O. Burtch Drake, president and CEO of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, at the trade group’s media conference in New Orleans Thursday morning.

Aside from the unsteady economic recovery, Drake sought to outline the more abstract challenges to advertising such as questions about the relevancy of the current agency model and the unexpected fallout from new technologies such as personal video recorders like TiVO.
