When Americans are lax about buying “green” goods, it’s not because they have trouble finding them — and not even because they doubt the products really help the planet. In an ABC News/Planet Green/Stanford University poll fielded in July and released last month, respondents were queried on products whose manufacturers say they “help the environment because they’re made using recycled materials, don’t use chemicals or will decompose naturally after being used.” Asked if they try to buy these products, 46 percent said they do so “whenever possible”; 22 percent said they do so “occasionally.”
