CHICAGO Rick Capps, president and CEO of Publicis Groupe digital production unit Capps, will retire next year, the agency said.

Brent Moncrief, Capps’ chief marketing officer, will become CEO, effective January 1, 2006. Capps will continue to handle the transition through the year.

“I have had an exciting career in an industry that has experienced significant change over the past 15 years,” said Capps, 52, in a statement. “The advent of digital technologies in graphic arts created an opportunity for me to grow my father’s boutique art studio of six employees into a digital pre-media leader of more than 200 professionals.”

Moncrief, 43, joined Capps in 2000, having previously worked at Seven Worldwide and Eastman Kodak.

For the majority of its existence, Capps was a division of Leo Burnett, handling pre-production and digital imaging for the advertising agency. In 2002, the unit moved to the Specialized Agencies and Marketing Services division of Publicis Groupe, becoming the holding company’s primary print pre-media agency.

Capps in February opened an office in New York to better serve Publicis Groupe agencies there, including Publicis North America, The Kaplan Thaler Group and Medicus.

In addition to its pre-media services, Capps is also parent to a packaging and corporate identity firm i4design and high-end retouching illustration and photography boutique L’Image.
