SAN FRANCISCO Hub Strategy and Communication has taken on creative chores for Sling Media, whose technology enables television broadcasts to be rerouted to computers, the agency said.

Sling Media of San Mateo, Calif., in June will launch the Slingbox, which allows consumers to watch TV programming wherever they are, by turning any laptop or Internet device into a personal television.

The San Francisco agency will handle all branding, advertising, Web site design, and sales and marketing materials, said D.J. O’Neil, president of Hub. The target market is digital media enthusiasts.

There was no review, and Sling Media has not been working with an agency, Hub executives said.

Billings were not disclosed. Sling Media did not register ad spending figures in 2004.

O’Neil said one of the agency’s goals is to help customers understand the capabilities of the Slingbox, and to make Sling Media stand out in the competitive area of consumer electronics.

“Sling doesn’t want their branding and communication to blend in,” O’Neil said. “They want to have a sharp, irreverent voice—a tone that we think will connect well with their consumer.”

Choosing Hub as its ad agency was simple, said Rich Buchanan, vice president of marketing at Sling Media.

“Their ability to execute and provide a strong brand strategy will serve us well and prominently position Sling Media within the consumer arena,” Buchanan said.
