Does "Face" Have "This Week" in Its Sights?

Based on the fact that CBS is bragging about its recent victory not over ratings champ “Meet the Press” but over ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” we wonder if — in the new post-Russert world of Sunday talk — besting “This Week” is “Face the Nation”‘s New Years resolution.

CBS NEWS’ “”FACE THE NATION” BEATS ABC IN ALL KEY DEMOGRAPHICS

FACE THE NATION WITH BOB SCHIEFFER beat ABC in all key demographics for the Sunday, Dec. 14 broadcast. Compared to the same week last year, the program was up +5% in viewers (3.47m from 3.32m) and even in both households (2.4/07) and adults 25-54 (1.0/05). Since the 2008-2009 Season began on Sept. 28, the program has gained in total viewers every week when compared to the previous year.

For the third consecutive week, FACE THE NATION placed ahead of ABC in both households and viewers, and this week also outperformed in the adults 25-54 demographic. Season-to-date, FACE THE NATION is up +21% in households (2.3/06 from 1.9/05), +25% in viewers (3.19m from 2.54m) and +29% in adults 25-54 (0.9/04 from 0.7/04) compared to last year.

The guests on Sunday, Dec. 14 included Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and author Michael Eric Dyson.
