Tell Me Something I Don't Know

From this weekend’s “Chris Matthews Show”:

JOE KLEIN, TIME MAGAZINE:
“Al Gore: The Nobel Prizes are going to be announced in mid-October. I think that that’s a key moment. I don’t think he’ll announce for president before that. I think November 1st is probably the drop-dead date.”

JOE KLEIN’S ADVICE TO AL GORE:
“Al, you’re a fat guy. Run as a fat guy. Be authentic. Don’t lose weight!”

CYNTHIA TUCKER, ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION:
“Julie Gerberding, head of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control, has had a controversial tenure. She’s drawn criticism from Senator Charles Grassley already. This latest episode of bureaucratic bungling where the CDC could not keep Andrew Speaker — whom they knew had TB, whom they knew was going to travel — off an airplane is going to increase the heat on her immensely.”

PATRICK HEALY, NEW YORK TIMES:
“Here’s something that Hillary, Rudy and Romney all have in common: Their campaigns think that Thompson is going to bleed McCain dry of money so quickly in June that July, early July will be all McCain obit stories — that he’ll be broke, he’ll have spent so much money on consultants and not raised enough, he’ll be in trouble.”

KELLY O’DONNELL, NBC NEWS:
“Not so easy to leave the Bush White House: A Ph.D. young woman, expert on Iraq said in April, ‘Thank you, my government service is over.’ The president says, ‘No, I need you to go back to Iraq and try and push through these benchmarks.'”
