New Aviation Reporter

The Post announced their new aviation reporter: Del Wilber (replacing Sara Goo, who helped develop the beat--especially after Sept. 11--and who will now cover technology for the paper). Wilber currently covers the DC cops beat for the paper. It's clear to everyone that Wilber's career is really taking off. His reporting has shifted into Mach 3 mode recently, flying far above the competition and soaring above the rest. The top cruising altitude for this fella really has no limits. He loves to fly and it shows. Okay, we'll stop with flying references. But it ain't easy making the revolving door on the aviation beat an interesting read. Full announcement follows... April 19, 2006 Del Wilber Takes Aviation Beat We are thrilled to announce that Del Wilber will be our new aviation reporter. Del is an impressive reporter and writer who mastered the DC cops beat. He got inside the culture of the department and also showed how violence affects real people. Stand-out stories included his unique piece profiling the natural death squad, another that showed how cops combat auto theft, a wrenching piece about a 12-year-old child who got shot and an insightful profile of Sandy Allen's grandsons. We knew he was good, but had no clue that, on the side, Del is also an aviation buff. He knows his jackscrews and rudder panel controls and confesses to being fascinated with NTSB reports on airplane crashes. He claims there is nothing he'd like better than to dig into the Federal Aviation Administration and other air safety and security agencies. When we heard that, we knew we had found the right person to replace Sara Goo, who has moved to cover technology after a great run on the aviation beat. Del caught The Post's eye with his top-notch cops coverage at the Baltimore Sun, where he was a 2003 Pulitzer finalist as one of the paper's lead reporters on the sniper attacks.
