This morning, a similar and equally powerful cover design was unveiled for the June 6, 2016 issue:

Both covers were conceived and designed by creative director Robert Vargas. A rep for the magazine tells us that in each case, Vargas felt that the compelling nature of the quotes erased the need for images or illustrations. “Quotes from the story drove his creative decisions.
