Laura Bush Talks the Importance of Design at the NDA

Want to hear architecture jokes made by First Lady Laura Bush? Or learn that she’s hip enough to know about iPods and Photoshop? Well, we can’t deliver the audio, but “here’s the transcript of her speech at the National Design Awards ceremony yesterday and since you’ve probably heard her speak enough over the years, you can probably imagine it in your head. In it, besides the jokes, she talks about the ““Design for the Other 90%” exhibit at the Copper-Hewitt and about the building of “Katrina Cottages in New Orleans (“…an attractive alternative to FEMA trailers.”) Overall, it’s not a half bad speech, all politics aside.
