Ad Spending Rises Slightly in Q1

Programs preempted by the war in Iraq held back the rise in ad spending during the first quarter, with expenditures rising just 1.5 percent over the same period last year, Nielsen Monitor-Plus reported last week. Still, ad spending rose in six of the 10 reported media categories. Spending declined about 5 percent each for network TV, cable TV, syndicated TV and national newspapers.
