USA Today Deputy Page One Editor, Robert J. Fleming, Passes Away

USA Today is mourning the loss of Robert J. Fleming, their deputy page one editor who passed away at the age of 53 following a short illness.

Prior to joining USA Today Fleming worked for The Virginian-Pilot, Philadelphia Daily News, and Los Angeles Times.  He is remembered fondly by his co-workers:

“Anyone who ever appreciated the precision, fairness, economy of words and sometimes playful headlines on the front page was seeing Bob’s work every morning,” said David Colton, USA Today‘s page one editor.  “This is a true loss, both for the newspaper and for all of us in the newsroom who have lost a friend.”

Fleming graduated from Louisiana State University and began his career in journalism in Biloxi, MS.
