The Twitter: Use WIth Care

The Secret Service may still be struggling to figure out The Google, but the rest of the world (or at least the part of that exists online, such as it is) has moved on to Twitter. Now Twitter may look innocuous enough — it comes in 140 character after all and it’s logo is a little bird &151; but the microblogging service has been getting some people in trouble of late.

We mentioned last week how a Colorado newspaper was on the receiving end of a lot of criticism for Twittering the funeral of a three year old boy. Well, it seems they may have learned their lesson.

According to a local blog the Rocky Mountain News has decided against twittering another funeral after staff complaints followed their first foray into the Twittering world.

The service in question involved one of the two adult women who died in the same automobile crash that killed young Kudlis. According to an e-mail provided to Westword, a staffer “went to the editors during and after Marten’s funeral and expressed concern” about Twittering another event of this type, particularly given the cringeworthy updates coming in from the Kudlis interment.
