St. John & Partners Gains Zaxby’s
ATLANTA—Zaxby’s Restaurants has awarded its estimated $5 million ad account to St. John & Partners, the client confirmed. The Jacksonville, Fla., agency bested Thompson & Co. in Memphis, Tenn., and The Leslie Agency and Henderson Advertising, both in Greenville, S.C., in a review. Search consultant Ken Bowes of Wanamaker Associates in Atlanta conducted the review.
YP&B Adds Hotel, Restaurant Clients
ATLANTA—Yesawich, Pepperdine & Brown has acquired marketing duties for four new clients. Total billings amount to $5 million. The Orlando, Fla., agency will provide advertising and public relations services forMarriott & Renaissance Offshore Resorts in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and the Radisson Lexington Hotel in New York. YP&B will develop advertising for the American Hotel & Lodging Association in Washington, D.C., and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando. Buca di Beppo, a restaurant chain headquartered in Minneapolis, has awarded the shop a public relations assignment for its new store in Orlando’s Florida Mall.
Mississippi Anti-Tobacco Work Targets Adults
ATLANTA—The latest anti-smoking campaign from Maris, West & Baker uses the stress adult-smoking induces in children to drive home its message. Two 30-second television spots for The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi—”Dress Up” and “Phone Call”—from the Jackson, Miss., shop promote the state’s tobacco-cessation services. Previous tobacco-cessation advertising had been provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Under Armour Sports Apparel Bows Campaign
ATLANTA—Under Armour has launched its first television campaign. The 30-second spot, featuring Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Eric Ogbogu, will run through the college football season on ESPN. Producer’s Video in Atlanta directed and edited the commercial. The ad was produced in-house by the Baltimore-based maker of moisture-absorbing athletic wear.
McDonald’s Designates Global Marketing Chief
CHICAGO—McDonald’s Corp. has appointed Larry Light its new global marketing officer after a three-month search. Light, who was once chief exectuve officer of Bates’ international division, most recently operated his own brand consulting firm, Arcature, in Stamford, Conn. Light will report to McDonald’s CEO Jack Greenberg and oversee global marketing strategies for the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company. The firm also named Bill Lamar to head up all domestic marketing. Lamar assumes the duties of Tom Ryan, who will focus on menu development.
Dieste Harmel Lands SBC’s Hispanic Account
DALLAS—Dieste Harmel & Partners has been awarded the Hispanic advertising account of SBC Communications, the client said. The Dallas shop could not be reached for comment. LatinWorks in Austin, Texas, was the incumbent. Last year, SBC spent about $6 million on Hispanic advertising, according to Nielsen Monitor Plus.
