In his first major move since taking the reins of TBWA Worldwide, CEO Jean-Marie Dru is expected to promote the CEOs of New York and Los Angeles offices, handing both executives broader responsibilities, sources said.

Carl Johnson takes the new title of chief operating officer of TBWA Worldwide and Tom Carroll becomes president of the Americas, said sources.

Bob Kuperman previously held the title of president and CEO of the Americas. Johnson and Carroll will report to Dru.

The promotions are part of a reorganization designed to clarify the roles of top network executives, according to a source who described the new setup as “clearer” and “simpler.”

Dru, who recently replaced Michael Greenlees in the top global job (Adweek, March 19), is splitting his time between Paris and the U.S.

Lee Clow, chairman, worldwide creative director and spiritual leader of the $6.5 billion network, is seen as Dru’s partner and is not affected by the moves, said sources.

Johnson and Carroll could not immediately be reached and a TBWA representative declined comment.
