Carl’s Jr. Pulls Rodman Spot
LOS ANGELES–Carl’s Jr. Restaurants has pulled its TV spot featuring Dennis Rodman due to negative comments the basketball star made about the Mormon religion. ‘Rodman’s flamboyant and outrageous behavior was part of his appeal initially,’ said a spokesperson for Carl’s Jr. ‘But when it includes derogatory comments about another race or religion, we had to draw the line.’ The advertising was created by Mendelsohn/Zien Advertising in Los Angeles.
Chinn Departs TBWA Chiat/Day
LOS ANGELES–Steve Chinn, director of account planning for TBWA Chiat/Day’s Venice, Calif., office, left the agency last week. John Truscott, co-managing director of the Venice office, said Chinn had resigned and the agency is looking for a replacement. For the short term, group planning directors Jeffrey Blish and Anne Truscott will oversee the planning department.
Roberts Taps Gilbert for Global Saatchi Board
NEW YORK–Kevin Roberts, the new chief executive officer of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worldwide, has appointed Scott Gilbert to the agency’s worldwide executive board, said sources. Gilbert serves as co-chairman and chief executive officer of Team One Advertising in El Segundo, Calif., the creatively focused spinoff formed nearly 10 years ago to handle Toyota Motor Sales USA’s Lexus luxury car division. Neither Roberts nor Gilbert could be reached.
Adidas Consolidates Media at Leagas
LOS ANGELES–Adidas International has moved U.S. media buying duties from Team One Advertising in El Segundo, Calif., to Leagas Delaney in San Francisco, sources said. Leagas currently handles Adidas’ creative.

GSD&M in Austin, Texas, has joined the review for Bank of America’s $30-40 million broadcast media buying account, sources confirmed. GSD&M is the only full-service agency competing. Four media agencies are pitching: Creative Media and SFM Media, both in New York, and Western International Media and Carat/ICG, both in Los Angeles . . . Charles Schwab is talking to Mendelsohn/Zien in Los Angeles, Blazing Paradigm in San Francisco and a third, undisclosed agency, said Schwab executive Len Short. Final presentations are June 25 . . . Norwegian Cruise Line in Miami has put its estimated $10 million account in review after splitting with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, as expected (Adweek, May 26).
