TEXAS
Makos Advertising in Austin has hired Melissa Black, former network traffic coordinator and assistant media planner at GSD&M, also in Austin, as media planner. The agency also installed Sindhu Sheladia as its first office manager and receptionist.
Dallas-based Belo has designated Harold Gaar director of sales and marketing for Texas Cable News (TCN), the organization’s statewide 24-hour cable television news service. Gaar previously served as vice president of financial and investor relations.
USWeb/CKS in Austin has appointed Michael Bailey partner and chief branding strategist responsible for all marketing programs and creative development involving its local clients. Bailey previously managed the Dell online account at Grey Interactive Worldwide.
Duncan/Day Advertising in Dallas recently added Charles Urich to its creative department as an art director. Urich was formerly employed at Excel Communications.
Brian Hicks has joined the post-production staff of Red Car in Dallas as a video editor. Over the last four years Hicks has worked on a wide range of music videos for Rain Maker Records, Interscope and Sony. He won a Telly award in 1997 for best editing of a rock/music video.
McBride, Dealey & Associates of Dallas has recruited Erik Herskind, formerly of Brierley & Partners, as executive vice president. In this newly created position, Herskind will be responsible for overseeing agency operations in addition to developing new business.
Chris Hargrove has moved to Wheeler Advertising in Arlington as a graphic artist. Hargrove recently worked in the graphic arts department at Associated Publishing. Teresa
Hancock has joined the company as a media buyer. Hancock has more than 15 years of media buying experience for clients including Radio Shack. Dana Lawlis returns to the agency as vice president of finance following a year with Bozell Advertising in Las Colinas. Kayla Alley was promoted from media buyer to account executive at Wheeler.
Jana Sharaf has been promoted to manager of accounts receivable in the accounting department at Regian & Wilson/Grey Advertising in Fort Worth.
The Olson Group in Austin has announced several new employee hires and personnel promotions. Leah Miller has joined the staff as an account executive. Miller’s experience includes marketing for CollegeHire.com, recruiting for Trilogy Software, and advertising agency work with T3. Kelly Paegle has arrived as office manager. Kelli Oestreich has been promoted to associate creative director. Oestreich, who previously served as art director, will provide creative design direction for print collateral, corporate identity and Web site development for all agency clients. Matt Fangman has moved up from graphic designer to art director, working on projects for clients including IBM and Thinkwell.com. Shannon Freix has advanced to graphic designer, responsible for design and production of print and interactive materials. Carrie Glassmeyer has progressed to traffic manager at Olson.
Rives Carlberg in Houston has welcomed Lorna Muniz and Jessica Melillo as account executives. Muniz works on the Houston Chronicle and Compaq Latin American accounts. She comes to the agency from Puerto Rico, where she was employed as an account executive at Leo Burnett Puerto Rico. Melillo works on Compaq Education and Solectron. Previously, Melillo was involved in various Web development projects at Vannevar New Media as an account manager. Melissa Mater, Ashley Svrcek and John Gruber have all joined the agency’s media department. Mater, a media buyer, comes from GSD&M in Austin. Svrcek, a recent Southwest Texas State University graduate, arrives as assistant media buyer. Gruber, a University of Texas graduate, also begins work as assistant media buyer. Michael Rocha has been assigned to the accounting department as a business analyst. Jaime Rodriguez, previously in the U.S. Army, has joined the agency’s administrative department.
Fellers Marketing and Advertising has promoted Don De Pasquale from creative director to senior vice president and manager of the Houston office. His experience includes the national branding launch of Compaq Computers, as well as client work with Shell Oil, IBM, Pizza Inn, EDS, the Houston Astros and SkyTel, among other advertisers.
Walker McDaniel and Julie Curlee have joined the staff of r.j. kolar advertising and marketing in Austin as account coordinators on a marketing program for the electrical products division of 3M. McDaniel has worked at the former Bauerlein advertising agency in New Orleans; Curlee is a student and former traffic manager for r.j. kolar.
Kristin Christenson has returned to Dallas-based Ryan Partnership to handle strategic planning on the Nokia telecommunications account. A former account manager with Ryan, she most recently held the position of promotions manager for the Dr Pepper and 7-Up brands.
Michael & Partners in Dallas has recruited Jennifer Hudson as a senior copywriter and strategic planner. In addition, Hudson will develop collateral materials and presentations for the agency’s clients. Hudson previously was a senior account executive with Witherspoon & Associates in Fort Worth.

Burke will continue in his current position of art director. Amy Hopkins has been promoted from account coordinator to account writer. Brent Johnson has arrived at Fellers as an art director. Johnson formerly worked for Ebsco Graphics and Smith Advertising. Barry Bruner, formerly with Ackerman McQueen, has joined the agency as production coordinator. Brian Wall, previously with Harold’s Stores, has come aboard as an account writer.
Tulsa-based Littlefield Marketing & Advertising has named Barry McCabe senior vice president of client services. McCabe comes from NKH&W Integrated Marketing Communications, where he was vice president and account group director for Sprint and other clients.
Sara Wilson, executive vice president of Hartman Communications in Tulsa, has been appointed vice chairman of the international board of directors of the Business Marketing Association.
