TBWA Chiat/Day Plans Move, Taps CD for Apple LOS ANGELES--Executives at TBWA Chiat/Day last week signed a lease on property in Playa del Rey, Calif., an up-and-coming area where movie studio DreamWorks SKG will also make its home. Agency executives last year said they would relocate from the shop's Frank Gehry-designed space in Venice, Calif., to larger quarters. The move is planned for September 1998. Separately, the agency has hired Ken Segall as senior partner, creative director on the Apple Computer account. Segall, most recently executive vice president and executive creative director at Young & Rubicam in New York, will be based in New York. Dep Trims Contender List to 8 LOS ANGELES--Dep Corp. has narrowed the list of contenders for its $7-10 million ad account to eight Southern California shops: LM&A, Playa del Rey; Ahlman & Associates, Westlake Village; Bates USA West and dGWB, both in Irvine; Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa; and DavisElen Advertising, Campbell/Ewald and Dailey & Associates, all in Los Angeles. Presentations are scheduled for this month, with a decision expected in October, according to consultant Mike Marsak. Think Breaks First Oracle TV Spot LOS ANGELES--Computer software maker Oracle Corp. will launch its first national TV commercial this week. The ad is part of a $10 million campaign from Think New Ideas in New York and Hollywood, Calif., promoting Oracle's software for the network computer, a scaled-down version of a personal computer. The ad shows what appears to be a middle-class boy using his PC to talk to a friend who lives in a poor, urban setting and uses an NC. Canon Computer to Unveil Ads LOS ANGELES--Canon Computer Systems this month will launch a $25 million campaign focused on the company's new color bubble jet and convertible printers. Print ads, created by Marina del Rey, Calif.-based Hajjar and Partners, will appear in newspapers and magazines. TV spots will break in October. Great Western Retains Bozell After Merger LOS ANGELES--Great Western Bank has retained Bozell Worldwide in Costa Mesa, Calif., to launch its fall print, radio and outdoor campaign. Bozell handled the Great Western account prior to the bank's merger with Washington Mutual in July. McCann-Erickson in Seattle handles the Washington Mutual account and is unaffected by the retention of Bozell, according to Bill Ehrlich, a spokesperson for Washington Mutual. Levi's Launches Bilingual Effort SAN FRANCISCO--Levi's first bilingual TV and radio campaign breaks today in Los Angeles and Houston. TV spots will also air on Spanish-language networks throughout the U.S. The tagline: "Te llevan" ("They take you"). Ads were produced by Bromley, Aguilar and Associates, San Antonio, Texas.
