FLORIDA Kohl PIctures in Jacksonville has signed Bob Russo Promotions in New York as its motion picture sales representative in the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast. Miami-based Game Plan has won the sports marketing business of Pizza Hut of South Florida, the largest group of minority-owned franchises in the U.S. Game Plan will direct corporate sponsorship involvement in special events and with professional sports teams. The emphasis will be on community involvement programs to help generate more retail traffic for the pizza chain. Another objective is to increase the restaurant's participation in the school systems of Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties. St. John & Partners in Jacksonville has been contracted to highlight improvements in the city's daily newspaper, The Florida Times-Union. Humorous ads, which will air on television over the next 14 months, will promote the century-old paper's beefed-up local news, business and sports sections. Radio, billboard and print advertising and a public affairs program will supplement the TV commercials in a $3 million campaign. Empire Communications Group of Jacksonville has retained hometown firm Mike Walburn Architecture to design its office building, expected to be completed in summer 1999. Construction is set to start next month. The Zippatoni Co., a national promotion and marketing services agency, has been tapped by Bacardi Martini USA for its Bacardi Rum brands, including Bacardi Limon. The St. Louis shop will interact with the marketing and sales promotion departments at Miami-based Bacardi to develop on- and off-premise programs for the brand group. The National Minority Supplier Development Council presented Greene Beech Advertising & Design Group with a Class II Regional Award for Excellence, one of the highest honors given by the council for minority suppliers who distinguish themselves and their businesses through exceptional quality and contributing to the growth and development of their communities. Greene Beech of Fort Lauderdale, a wholly owned minority and female business enterprise, is one of 12 honorees selected from more than 15,000 firms. Tampa's Peak/Biety has been selected by BuddyFreddys to develop marketing, advertising and promotions for the restaurant chain. The string of Southern buffet-style locations, which began as combination gas stations/feed stores/eateries, is in the midst of a major expansion after acquiring six restaurants in Florida. BuddyFreddys plans to convert the acquisitions to its buffet concept. Willman & Co. unveiled its new Web site at www.willmanco.com, a complete overhaul of the Jacksonville agency's original venue which was launched in 1996. Post Edge, a post-production studio in Miami Beach, has opened a new state-of-the-art audio center at its South Beach facility. The multimillion dollar renovation features three new audio suites and a voiceover studio. GEORGIA Char Baxter Communications, a high-tech creative agency in Atlanta, swept the print communications awards presented by the Atlanta chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, winning seven prizes. CBC won more awards than any other agency, taking home four Golden Flames, one Silver Flame and two honorable mentions. It was also cited for the "State of Technology: 1998 Blue Ribbon Report," released at the recent Georgia Technology Forum '98. The Headline Group in Atlanta has added three new clients. PF Chang's China Bistro has hired the agency to oversee media relations and external communication for its Atlanta restaurant. General Cinema Theaters, which opened a 15-screen complex Nov. 13 in Marietta, has contracted the shop for public relations. Aircond Inc., which services energy and indoor environmental systems, has selected the firm to handle its external communications initiatives. Ad 2 Atlanta and the Mental Health Association of Metro Atlanta are developing a pro bono public service project. Both groups are interested in establishing sponsorships and corporate tie-ins. Jack & Associates of Marietta has become the advertising and public relations agency for Kaplan Companies' Georgia division. The New Jersey-based residential developer formed the Georgia unit to expand its presence in Atlanta. Rountree Group of Atlanta has won awards from the International Association of Business Communicators Georgia chapter and the Public Relations Society of America. Its work for Sugarloaf Country Club won IABC's Golden Flame in special communications as well as honorable mentions for scriptwriting. The agency also earned honorable mentions in graphic communications for its own collateral material and a media relations campaign for the 1998 Southeastern Flower Show. Rountree's Sugarloaf feature release writing received a PRSA award. The in-house ad and communications department at Atlanta's BioGuard was honored six times at the second annual National Spa & Pool Institute Consumer Influence Awards, winning in the radio, newspaper and magazine categories. Manning, Selvage & Lee/Atlanta named Special Olympics Georgia recipient of the 1999 George Goodwin Community Grant. The $75,000 grant provides public relations and marketing communication services to an Atlanta-based, not-for-profit organization for two years. MARYLAND Rossƒ & Associates in Sparks has secured the U.S. and Canadian advertising and marketing communications account of SIG Arms. The international sporting arms manufacturer, whose U.S. headquarters are in Exeter, N.H., targets both civilian and military/law enforcement clients. Crosby Marketing Communications in Annapolis was honored three times at the fifth annual National Health Information Awards. Crosby's three awards were for materials developed for the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's "Learn to Live" cancer-prevention campaign. SOUTH CAROLINA Greenville-based FurniturePoint.com has hired Kaleidoscope Design, also of Greenville, to design its Web site and provide national public relations and advertising services. The site features virtual showrooms for consumers, institutional buyers and interior decorators at www.furniturepoint.com. Promotions Plus, a special events and advertising firm, has moved to 350 Feaster Road, Suite C, Greenville 29615. The Gillespie Agency received a pair of InShow Awards from the Columbia Communicating Arts Society, an organization of creative professionals in advertising and marketing. The Columbia agency won for its Beaux Arts Ball '98 poster for an area music festival and for a Benjamin Covington brochure produced for the furniture maker of the same name. DuBois-Daugherty, a buyers' realty agency that exclusively represents purchasers' interests in residential real estate, has chosen Charleston's Bosworth Group as its marketing and public relations counsel. TENNESSEE Archer/Malmo of Memphis has designed a poster for the opening of the Fire Museum in Memphis. Headlined with the facility's motto, "The bell rang and we answered," the poster shows firefighters encircled by gold and red sparks and flame graphics. VIRGINIA Richmond's Sharon Brooks & Associates took home two Excellent Awards from the 1998 Southern Economic Development Council Literature and Promotion competition for work it developed for two local clients. The Spotsylvania Office of Economic Development's Web site and the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative's international publication ad were honored. WASHINGTON, D.C.
