Twitter said Tuesday that it acquired mobile push notification platform OpenBack, and its team will join the social network’s Bluebird product team to focus on its notifications product.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Twitter said OpenBack will wind down its existing business as the team brings its “expertise and core competencies” to the social network.

The OpenBack platform enables device-side control of push notifications from mobile applications, allowing those apps to process data on the device without the need to go through third-party servers.

Twitter said its goal is to enhance the notifications experience on its platform and better connect people with relevant content at the right time.
