Holding company MDC Partners has bought a minority stake – with the option to upgrade to a majority interest at its discretion – in longtime independent Doner, The New York Times first reported yesterday. The investment follows a rough patch for the Michigan-based agency, which came under new ownership in late 2009 after being embroiled in a public legal battle over the handling of its pension funds, and then lost flagship client Mazda the following year.
