On July 1 2020, Russia voted to make a change to its constitution that would state that marriage could only take place between a man and a woman.

Ahead of that one-year anniversary, an anti-homophobia film has been released, featuring two men dancing the same dance alone and in separate apartments—a metaphor for their relationship.

“We Will Become Better” was produced despite the personal risk it posed for all involved. The film infringes upon Russia’s “Gay Propaganda” law, introduced in June 2013, which could mean imprisonment for those involved in broadcasting the representation of the LGBTQ+
