Reddit is testing a new way for moderators to welcome new members to their communities.

The custom messages, for mobile and the web, are currently being tested with 30% of Redditors and are available to all moderators.

Moderators already had the ability to welcome new members via direct message.

Redditors who wish to opt out of these messages can do so via their notification settings.

The platform is also testing a new avatar builder to enable users to more easily scroll through selections and outfit their avatars in the latest gear.

And a new banner is being added to the sidebar to inform Redditors when new gear is released.
