First Tip: Insta-25% Increase in your sales: Add smartphones

When you add smartphones as a device where people can download your magazine and easily read it, you can increase your sales by 25%. Why?

  1. Because there are many more people who have smartphones than tablets, and they are very used to using those smartphones to purchase things. According to IDC in 2012, there were 722M smartphones shipped vs. 128M tablets. Even though that gap will tighten, by 2017, they are still predicting smartphones at 1.5B vs. 352M for tablets.
  2. Because smartphone screen sizes are becoming just a smidge under the size of a small tablet, with all the functionality of the phone.Samsung is a perfect example, with a smartphone screen of 5.5 inches for their Galaxy Note, and a tablet starting at 7 inches. Enter a new word in our vocabulary: phablet.

You might argue that even though there are smartphones than tablets, more web traffic is coming from tablets than smartphones.Forbes’ first look at web traffic showed exactly that. (pic of web traffic) Digging deeper, however, they found profound differences in different countries. While the US and UK, do have more traffic coming from tablets, countries like China and Japan still have significantly more traffic coming from smartphones. These are countries with a lot of buying power.

Digital magazine platform Picsean says their customers are seeing up to 25% of their sales coming from smartphones. That’s too big a number to ignore.

Apple is still the leader in apps, and as anyone knows it’s just a click and a password entry away from a sale when you see something you want to buy.

So, make sure to optimize your digimag for smartphones as well as at least one tablet.
