Marie Claire Sews Up Deal With Nina Garcia

Hearst Magazines’ Marie Claire magazine has finally made it official: It’s snagged Project Runway judge Nina Garcia as fashion director of the magazine.

Garcia will jump from Hachette Filipacchi Media’s Elle, where she had the same title. Marie Claire has been gunning to replace Elle as the magazine partner for Project Runway, which just switched allegiances from Bravo to Lifetime, which is half owned by Hearst.

The potential that Garcia would leave Elle before Project Runway’s fifth season taped this summer threw into question the magazine’s role in the reality TV show’s upcoming season. But as it turns out, Elle will get Garcia for one more season: Hachette will announce this morning that Garcia will take the title of editor at large for Elle through Sept. 1, which will let her represent the magazine on Project Runway. She’ll start her new gig at Marie Claire on Sept. 2.

Garcia replaces Tracy Taylor, who left the magazine.
