A Superstar DJ and Five Tagline Winners

Tomorrow night and well into Sunday morning, DJ Victor Calderone will spin patrons through the second monthly installment of MATTER+. The initial edition of the event October 4 at Space Ibiza’s gargantuan New York outpost on West 50th Street went for seven hours.

To help spread the MATTER+ word, the club held a best-tagline contest. This morning on Facebook, five winners were announced, all of whom will be put on the guest list, given a T-shirt and – best of all – granted a booth visit. FishbowlNY’s favorite of the winning entries comes from Gabi Yitzhakov:

What’s the MATTER+? Can’t handle the bass? Then step away from the speaker.

E.g., if you can’t stand the beat, get out of Hell’s Kitchen. E.g.g., hell yeah!

When the Village Voice‘s Steve Weinstein wrote up Calderone’s homecoming last month, he reminded of a connection closer than the club’s namesake Mediterranean paradise:

Fellow Bensonhurst native Rob Toma, the [Ibiza Space New York] club’s talent manager, hopes that booking the one DJ most closely associated with a hard-as-nails sound will send a definite signal to clubgoers. “We program for adults,” he says. “EDM is more pop. It’s for college kids. We don’t want to be a young venue.”

“Victor is a staple in New York,” he adds. “He needs a proper home.”

Calderone’s special guest for the November 1 stage of the new residency is Swedish producer Alexi Delano. At press time, some tickets were still available.
