The Hubris Of A Times Of London Columnist
A British television presenter and newspaper columnist decided to show readers that the idea of identity theft was a “scam.”
So Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear published his bank account details in the Times of London.
To noone’s surprise, an enterprising prankster managed to take nearly $1000 out of his account. Clarkson recently woke up to find that someone had engineered a direct debit which sent GBP500 from his account to chairty Diabetes UK using details that were published in the Times.
According to Clarkson:
“I opened my bank statement this morning to find out that someone has set up a direct debit which automatically takes GBP500 from my account […] “The bank cannot find out who did this because of the Data Protection Act and they cannot stop it from happening again.
