NewsHour & TIME Team Up for Omar al-Bashir Interview
TIME and NewsHour recently teamed up for an interview with Omar al-Bashir, President of Sudan to discuss the decades of violence in his country and his arrest for war crimes.
During the discussion, al-Bashir criticizes the international court as a “tool of neo-colonialism” and claims only 10,000 people have died in Darfur, despite UN reports that the death toll is much higher. Bashir gives his strongest hints yet that he may not stand for re-election as President next year and says he hopes under an Obama administration “we will normalize relations with the US.”
