Instagram Adds Several New Safety Features Geared Toward Teens

The platform is using 'privacy conscious' AI and machine learning to determine users’ real ages

Instagram detailed several steps it is taking to keep teen members of its community safe.

The Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network is using privacy conscious artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to determine the actual ages of its users and apply some of its new age-appropriate features, as well as to ensure that all users are at least 13.

Adults are now prevented from sending Instagram Direct messages to people under 18 who don’t’ follow them.
