Facebook marked World Blood Donor Day Monday (June 14) by revealing that over 100 million people worldwide have signed up for the social network’s Blood Donations feature, which enables them to receive notifications from nearby blood banks about donation opportunities.

Head of health Kang-Xing Jin said in a Newsroom post Monday that in the two months after the social network released the Blood Donations feature in the U.S. in June 2019, donations from first-time blood donors at partner sites rose 19%, adding that in Brazil and India, the share of donors at blood banks who said they were influenced to donate by Facebook notifications reached 14% in the first year that the feature was available.
