Among the few certainties in this world are death, taxes and industry consolidation in the news business.

On Tuesday, BuzzFeed laid off dozens of employees at HuffPost, the news outlet they acquired weeks ago. (The acquisition was announced on Nov. 19 and closed on Feb. 16.) In the U.S., 47 HuffPost staffers lost their jobs, and the company is shutting down HuffPost Canada, leading to 23 more job losses.

Many media companies have issued layoffs since the start of the pandemic, though some have started to bounce back from the brunt of the economic crisis.

At least two top HuffPost editors, executive editor Hillary Frey and international executive editor Louise Roug, are also leaving the company, along with multiple well-known journalists.
