NEW YORK-August 14, 2013-Amazon Publishing today announced “Icons,” a new series of short biographies, and the first ten titles in the series. Written by a range of celebrated authors, the books will focus on canonical figures in the culture, both historical and contemporary. The inaugural list of ten titles will be published bi-monthly beginning in December 2013 with a biography of Jesus by Jay Parini. The series is co-edited by James Atlas, veteran publisher, general editor (Penguin Lives), and author (Bellow: A Biography), and Ed Park, senior editor at Amazon Publishing.

“In a time when our fascination with the private aspects of public lives is so intense, it’s not surprising that biography has become one of the most prominent forms of narrative nonfiction,” said James Atlas.
