#WPCF Dinner 2011

A packed ballroom in the basement of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel played host to the 67th Annual Washington Press Club Foundation's Congressional Dinner last night. Nearly 800 guests including Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) turned out to rub elbows with the Washington press corps and take in a program emceed ABC News White House Correspondent Jake Tapper who filled in for Christiane Amanpour. Throughout the event, the always-dapper Jake Tapper took shots at Rep. Chris Lee's (R-NY) recent Craigslist scandal and proclaimed that Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) was "not a witch but may be a warlock." He was outperformed by only Coons who had the room in stitches as he mocked everyone from Vice President Joe Biden to the evening's emcee. The freshman Senator jabbed Tapper, saying that last night wasn't the first time he was "second choice for a job offered to Amanpour" and delighted the crowd by explaining "it's not the size of your state, it's how you use it." Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) had the tough job of following Coons' act but she held her own. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Rep. Terri "but seriously" Sewell (D-AL) who inserted the phrase "but seriously" after each of her floundering punchlines. On the bright side, Sewell's standup act drove us out to The Hill's after-party before reality show representative, Sean Duffy (R-WI) took the mic. We hear he bombed too. Waaa. Waaaaa.
