When Fruity Circles Look Just As Good As Fruit Loops

Rob Walker turns down the design aisle in his weekly Consumed column for the NY Times Magazine. Yesterday’s “Shelf Improvement” talks about the very revolutionary design approach of southern supermarket chain Publix. They’re actually making their store-brand packaging not look like the brands they’re competing with. Plus mediabistro’s very own Designing Editor, Bryn Mooth, weighs in on what makes Publix clix. (HOW named Publix best in-house design group for 2005.)

Might we also point out that the illustration accompanying the Consumed column each week is by the lovely Leif Parsons, one of the most talented and genuine young illustrators of our time.
