Washington Examiner Adds Jamie McIntyre as Senior Defense Writer

He's coming from Al Jazeera America

Jamie-McIntyreThe Washington Examiner has hired Jamie McIntyre as its senior defense and national security writer, a move that is part of the publication’s plans to bulk up it national security reporting across its platforms.

McIntyre, who is a national security correspondent at Al Jazeera America, will join the publication in April, when Al Jazeera America is slated to close up shop.

“It’s thrilling that Jamie McIntyre will soon be part of the Washington Examiner team. He’s a reporter whose work I’ve admired for more than 20 years and it’s a real coup to have him join the energetic and respected team of top-notch journalists we’re assembling,” said editorial director Hugo Gurdon in a statement.

Prior to joining Al Jazeera America, McIntyre was a newscaster on NPR’s All Things Considered, and the senior Pentagon correspondent at CNN before that.

“To say I am excited to join the talented team at the Washington Examiner would be to risk serious understatement. I could not be more impressed by the Examiner’s commitment to accurate, contextual, knowledge-based journalism, and am anxious to use my extensive national security background as we work to gain influence and earn respect in Washington and nationwide,” said McIntyre in a statement.

McIntyre’s arrival in April will also mark the beginning of a staff expansion for the defense and national security beats. The Examiner plans to add more hires in May.
