Re: Time/Warner Retail Announcement

Earlier today Time/Warner Retail announced they will be moving their New York City operations to Time Inc.’s Parsippany, New Jersey office building. While we are working to finalize a date, it’s unlikely to occur before the 2nd quarter of 2007. Approximately 150 people will be moving.

T/WR is the first business unit to move to the Parsippany office which we purchased a little over a year ago. The decision to move them was based on several factors including their relationships with clients, wholesalers and retailers outside of the New York City area. In addition, T/WR clearly understands how to effectively work as a team across multiple locations. More than 60% of T/WR’s workforce is currently outside of New York City.

Perhaps there’s nothing more to it, but at this point any moves will just fuel speculation of bigger moves to come, like what appeared over the weekend in the New York Times:

[Jeffrey L.] Bewkes is seeking bigger structural changes at the division, according to several people close to the company. Mr. Bewkes has zeroed in on the fact that Time Inc. publishes some 145 magazines worldwide, yet its 10 biggest generate a vast majority of its revenue. Expect them to get the bulk of attention and resources while some smaller titles drop their print editions (as Teen People recently did) and others are sold.
