The NY Daily News Gets Color

Ever before the colorful Mortimer B. Zuckerman’s acquired of The Daily News in 1992, he espoused the idea of color in the paper. From the press release:

”’I am committed to the future of the Daily News and its role in New York City . That’s why I am making this significant investment in its future,’ said Mort Zuckerman, Chairman and Publisher of the Daily News. ‘The Daily News has served this city for almost 90 years and I am determined that its future as New York ‘s leading newspaper should be secure. I am proud to offer our millions of readers the opportunity to enjoy the first major newspaper in the city in full-color. When the KBA printing presses are fully operational, the print quality of the Daily News will be head-and-shoulders above the competition and equal to any newspaper in the world. It will solidify our leadership position in the New York market and raise the bar on newspaper production in the United States.”’

The new KBA presses will come on line in the middle of 2009, with a completion date for the entire facility by the end of 2009’s 4Q.
