Stephen A. Smith Steps Away From the Inquirer

After two years of arbitration, bitter fighting and a demotion, sports columnist Stephen A. Smith returned to The Philadelphia Inquirer in February as a columnist once again.

Well it didn’t last long because the Inquirer has announced that Smith will leave the paper he’s worked at for over 15 years.
It’s not like Smith, who makes many television appearances and hosts a Fox Sports Radio show, will be hurting for a job. Just last week the LA Times reported that Smith is in serious discussions with Showtime to host a late-night talk show.
It does end a tumultuous relationship that began to unravel in 2007, when Smith was fired due to his high salary. After the Newspaper Guild got involved and arbitration hearings, the Inquirer finally agreed to bring Smith back, but he had to stop spouting political opinions.
However, Smith told Journal-ism that he’s leaving on good terms this time around. “I’m as happy as I’ve been for a long time,” said Smith. “I get to do what I really want to do. Anything’s possible. The sky’s the limit.”
