Shiba Russell Joins WNBC/Channel 4 as Weekend Anchor/Weekday Reporter

As we first reported in December, the rumors have come true–Shiba Russell is now a member of NBC 4 New York/WNBC.

Russell will co-anchor the weekend newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. with David Ushery. Viewers will also see Russell put on her reporting hat Monday-Wednesday.

“I am thrilled to be back home and feeling the pulse of NYC once again,” says Russell.  “I have missed the people of New York because they tell you like it is.  Since I landed my first paid gig in New York and grew up in New Jersey, this is really like a homecoming.”

That “first paid gig” was at Cablevision’s Neighborhoood News 12. Early on, she also worked for News 12 The Bronx.

Russell reaches the pinnacle of her career after a successful run at Boston’s WCVB-TV, where she was weekend morning anchor and weekday reporter. She contributed to stories that won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow, National Headliner, and New England Emmy Awards.

“We welcome Shiba back home to the Big Apple and are confident she will be a great addition to our NBC New York team,” says Susan Sullivan, VP, News, WNBC.

The versatile broadcast journalist also made stops in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.

Russell, who grew up in Ocean Township, New Jersey, graduated magna cum laude from the College of New Rochelle.
