Sac Bee Guild: ‘Take The Buyout’

We already knew that the Sacramento Bee is cutting another 25 jobs from its workforce. What we know now is who’s going.

The employees targeted are “copy editors, photographers, assistant sports editors, and advertising coordinators and production staff,” according to a posting on the Sacramento Bee’s Guild web site.

These employees all received buyout offers, and the Guild has urged them to accept. “We believe the company’s buyout offer is the best choice for the affected employees. It’s a choice none of us like, but the terms of the buyout appear better than the hammer of a layoff later,” wrote Bobby Calvan, a senior staff writer at the Bee.

The Bee employs more than one thousand people.
