Rudy VanderLans Plans Wild Graduation Party

Rudy VanderLans, designer, type foundry proprietor, sometime music entrepreneur, and patron saint, if you will, of design writing, will be given an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from CalArts this weekend. It will mark the first time that CalArts has conferred an honorary degree in the field of graphic design.

As editor of Emigre, you’ll remember that he published the writing of many a CalArts student and faculty member, even devoting an entire issue to CalArts.

VanderLans will get his diploma during the CalArts graduation ceremony on Friday, May 19, then host a raging kegger where Zuzana Licko will be drawing Mrs Eaves tattoos on passed out CalArts grads with permanent marker.
