Playboy Posts Net Loss Of $27.4 Million Including $25M In One-Time Writeoffs

Poor Hef. Playboy Enterprises (PLA) posted a loss for the third quarter of $27.4 million, or 81 cents a share, down from $1.1 million a year ago. A one-time writeoff of $25 million added to the loss, but even without the writedown the company’s quarterly loss has more than doubled.

That’s on revenue of $52.1 million, a 7 percent drop from last year’s $56 million.

Within the Playboy print/digital segment, the print magazine was shoring up the digital side, a surprise considering what people pay for on the Internet, and the company expects print advertising to increase another 7 percent in the 4th quarter of 2010.
