New Ad Age 'Vanguard' Awards to Honor Media Innovators

People seem to care a lot about the Twitter, Facebook, the iPad and other potential saviors of the media business. Sometimes, Advertising Age thinks, that focus comes at the unnecessary expense of legacy media entities. To bring some balance to the conversation, Ad Age today announced that it’s debuting the Media Vanguard Awards, which aim “to recognize the efforts of publishers and broadcasters — both traditional/ mainstream and web-native — that are finding innovative, technology-driven means to extend their franchises and connect with audiences in new ways.”

There will be multiple categories:

• Print: Newspapers
• Print: Magazines
• Broadcast: TV
• Broadcast: Radio
• Digital Native (for media properties that launched online without first having a traditional print or broadcast mothership)
• Global Spotlight (for media products meant for primarily non-U.S.
