Local Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Raided

Three medical marijuana dispensaries were raided by the Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday- The Nile Collective and Venice Alternative Healing, both located in Venice, and Marina Caregivers in Marina Del Rey. According to the Los Angeles Cannabis Clubs, no arrests were made, but the DEA confiscated money and weed. Seizing product and profit not only hurts local businesses during a recession, it’s hardly in keeping with the new president’s stance on medical marijuana. Steven Mikulan on LA Daily writes:

These are the first known DEA busts of L.A.-area pot dispensaries to occur after the inauguration of President Obama. On the campaign trail in 2008, Obama said he favored an end to such raids, telling one New Hampshire resident, “I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It’s not a good use of our resources.”
