The Daily Investigation Makes Big Splash in Vegas

Here’s a reminder that all it takes sometimes to score a journalistic bull’s eye is a little ingenuity rather than a whole lot of hard work.

On July 24, The Daily published the results of water tests based on samples taken from five popular Las Vegas Strip pool party hubs. Under the clever headline “Dirty Pool,” the iPad publication’s double lab tests confirmed that Tao Beach at The Venetian for example was the highest offender in terms of urine-to-water concentrations. Yuck.

Not surprisingly, The Venetian and the four other targeted hotels (MGM Grand, Hard Rock, Palms, Aria) have since gone into major damage control mode. According to Las Vegas NV Blog regular contributor Theo Spark, three of the establishments have already issued press releases trying to allay tourist dollar fears.

The Daily piece was written by Melissa Arseniuk, a former editor of weekly mag Vegas Seven who still contributes to the publication by means of a “Tweets of the Week” column. She is also presently the editor of Flavorpill. Good going, Melissa!
