KQED Public Radio Welcomes LA, Sacramento Bureau Chiefs

Some exciting news today out of San Francisco. KQED Public Radio has slotted Steven Cuevas (pictured) into its LA bureau and Scott Detrow onto the state capital beat. They join Fresno bureau chief Sasha Khokha.

From this afternoon’s blog post:

“We are excited to announce the appointments of two new bureau chiefs for The California Report,” said Jo Anne Wallace, vice president and general manager of KQED. “Cuevas and Detrow each brings years of award-winning journalism and great storytelling experience to their new assignments.”

Added Cuevas, who started January 14: “It’s a real honor and privilege to rejoin longtime friends and colleagues at a station that gave me my start, and on a program that continues to illuminate the politics, culture and history of this great state. Los Angeles and the greater Southern California region are a big, messy, beautiful place that is a dream for any reporter.”

Cuevas, based in downtown LA, is referring to the fact that he got his start in journalism 17 years ago as an intern for The California Report. Detrow meanwhile assumes his Sacramento bureau chief duties next Monday, February 11. Congrats to both.
