A Husband and Wife Who Firmly Believe in Print

The best newspaper news you'll read all day.

He is CEO; she is publisher. Meet Les and Jennifer Goodstein, who together run the media companies NYC Community Media and Community News Group.

The couple acquired the latter just last year, from News Corp. They currently oversee 18 community newspapers and 14 magazines. They also provide community content to the New York Post on Sundays, for a share of ad revenue.

Looking ahead, the Goldsteins see room for expansion. From an interview piece in the New York Business Journal by Gary M. Stern:

The Goodsteins have eyes on expanding. “If you look at a map, we’re throughout Queens, most of the Bronx except for Riverdale, all of Brooklyn and in Manhattan below 34 thStreet,” Jennifer Goodstein explains. Clearly that leaves plenty of neighborhoods ripe for investment north of 34 th including the Upper West Side, Clinton, Upper East Side and Harlem.

Their Brooklyn headquartered operation has a staff of around 100, split 40-60 between reporters and sales reps. Those reps have recently begun landing scaled business with national advertising accounts. To find out how revenue splits between print and digital, and much more, click here.
