I’m pleased to share with you the news, announced this morning, that our network has been honored with the George Foster Peabody Award this year for CNN’s Coverage Inside Syria and Homs.  The Peabody recognizes excellence, distinguished achievement and meritorious public service in journalism. The Peabody Award cites, “As political unrest in Syria disintegrated in civil war, CNN’s news teams provided unmatched eyewitness documentation, analysis and context.”

This honor follows the Overseas Press Club announcement that CNN has won the David Kaplan Award for CNN’s “Anonymous: Reporting from Damascus.”  The David Kaplan Award honors the best TV spot news reporting from abroad.

Finally, I want to also congratulate our Chris Cuomo for his participation in ABC News’ coverage of Superstorm Sandy, which was also recognized with a Peabody this morning.

These well-deserved recognitions for our colleagues’ commitment to tough storytelling around the world exemplify the best of CNN.

Congratulations to our honorees – we are so proud of each of you.
