Jack Shafer Tells Sidney Harman How to Run Newsweek
Slate’s Jack Shafer today runs a plainspoken (to understate the case) open letter to recent Newsweek acquirer Sidney Harman.
Among Shafer’s less-than-flattering observations and predictions:
• Harman is a vanity mogul and as such may be doomed to a vicious process in which Newsweek continues to flounder, Harman loses tons of money and the magazine’s staffers suffer brutal layoffs and management changes.
• Harman will die soon (he is 92, but no one likes to hear that).
