GQ to Open Barbershop at Barclays Center

How about a $40 shave with those Nets tickets?

Men’s fashion bible GQ is no stranger to showy brand extensions. It already boasts a number of GQ bars in far-flung locations like Istanbul, Moscow and Dubai (next up: Kazakhstan) and even a GQ-branded car (the Fiat 500c GQ Edition). Now the magazine is giving men yet another way to live the GQ lifestyle: The “first-ever” GQ Barbershop, opening this Friday at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

The barbershop, which is being launched in partnership with hipster shaving emporium Fellow Barber, will offer services ranging from a simple $10 “cleanup” (perfect if you’ve wound up on a last-minute concert date with no time for primping) to a shave and haircut package for $75 (a mere fraction of what you’ll be paying for those Arcade Fire tickets).

While the idea of a barbershop at a sports venue might seem incongruous, remember that Barclays isn’t just any arena—it’s a Jay-Z-approved arena. With outposts of trendy eateries like Fatty ‘Cue and Hova’s 40/40 Club (not to mention its VIP area, The Vault, which bills itself as “the most elite club in the country”), Barclays has long attempted to be a fashionable alternative to the average stadium. And what says “fashion” like ducking out of your $10,000 suite at the Nets game to indulge in some GQ-sanctioned grooming?
