Fate Steps In For Harris

WJLA’s Leon Harris has a hot chick to thank for his recent local Emmy as Washington’s best news anchor. Harris tells the Washington Post how he got his first taste of television news — trying to impress an upperclassman at Ohio University.

“I was trying to impress her,” he recalled. “You don’t take her uptown to go to the pub. You say, ‘Hey, how about going to check out the keynote at the communications week conference?'”

The date didn’t work out (shocker), but the keynote speaker, Ted Turner, certainly sparked something in Harris and launched a career.
